Just a few days ago, Dr Tumi, was put in a list that he shouldn’t have been, this came after DJ Cleo joked and teasingly listed his fellow musicians with (dr) before their stage names telling them to be ready for a national call up.

DJ Cleo told them that they could be called for national duty to come and help coronavirus victims in the country’s hospitals.

Instantly upon noticing the inclusion, Dr Tumi (Tumisang Makweya) set the record straight telling DJ Cleo that he had included him on the wrong list, as he is indeed a real medical doctor.

Meanwhile, as if to prove a point, the admired gospel musician has just come onboard. Dr Tumi will be rendering his professional hand to the country in the quest to lighten the coronavirus burden.

Dr Tumi will be stationed at Tembisa Hospital specialised Covid-19 unit, where he will be joining other medical practitioners in the fight against the pandemic.

“They need all the help they can get. So I thought as opposed to being locked up at home how about I go out and help not only my colleagues but our people as well. I had a good two years working in extreme resistance in a TB hospital. So to manage infectious diseases I really got proper training and experience then,” he said.

Dr Tumi, boasts experience spanning more than a decade as a qualified medical doctor.

The doctor, who also had a private practice for almost 10 years called on fellow physicians to play their role. He strongly believes this should be a united effort.

“So many of us are no longer in the public sector and that’s where things are happening right now. Obviously those doctors are going to be overworked and overwhelmed,” he said, adding that there is a lot that needs to be done to help those doctors on duty.

“There are a lot of us that can help sitting in private practice and we can help in a lot of areas in public hospitals. It doesn’t have to be in the Covid-19 unit, you can be helping in the wards so that you can relieve others to do other things. Just that support will go a long way,” he added.

After DJ Cleo compiled a list of all the musicians who are fictional doctors in the Mzansi. The real doctor, Dr Tumi, heeded the call, put the microphone and guitars down for a moment and offered his help.
